It never ceases to amaze me how many people want to get into better shape, but always seem to find reasons why they cannot. “Oh, I work all the time,” is probably the all-time number one reason given.  In the number two spot I hear people say “I just can’t find any time to ‘fit in’ exercise.”  It’s as though exercise and health are of ‘second class’ importance, like scrubbing the garage floor or cleaning the oven.  In third position, and especially these days, you might hear, “With real estate values and stock market prices down, I can’t afford to join a gym, hire a trainer or even think about getting healthy.”  I really like that one, especially when spoken on the boarding ramp of that Scandinavian Cruise ship which is about to get under way.

Perhaps, one of the biggest road blocks to finding the time to exercise is exactly that…trying to ’find the time.’  This is wrong thinking.  As long as you think this way, you never will ‘find the time.’  You must ‘make the time.’  Do it in the same manner that you would anything else.  Write the days and times down in you calendar and stick to it, just like a doctor’s appointment or such.  Anyone who exercises on a regular schedule will tell you the same thing.   Make the time!  Or, as the old health and fitness phrase goes, “Use it or lose it.”  Another one that is my favorite is, “Make time to exercise now, or you will have to make the time to be in the hospital, later”.

No one likes to hear about the ailments that could settle into their body as time goes by.  It’s scary.  But, that’s what we’ve been led to believe.  It’s as though our logical mind has been hypnotized into thinking in a manner contrary to nature.  The truth is that our bodies were meant to move around not sit around.  The active use of our body is one of the ways in which it stays in good running order.  Over the years, our society has changed and evolved.  Essentially, a lot of us have forgotten how important our body really is to us and how we must keep vigil over the activity (or the lack of activity) that can do us harm.  We have become a people so very wrapped up in our jobs to make the money to spend on things we don’t need, in an effort to make a ‘success’ of ourselves, while failing miserably at our most important job…that of maintaining the good health and well-being of our very lives.

With the advances in technology, science and medicine, we have become increasingly disconnected from the basics of how to stay healthy, fit and generally in good shape.  We are bombarded daily on television, in newspapers, and even on billboards with information on methods to change the way we look and feel without having to change the way we live our lives.  Fast food joints tempt us around every corner.  As a civilization that is ‘busier’ than any other in history, we don’t make room for regular physical exercise.  On top of all of that, we live in a pill and drug culture that caters to our wants and desires to mask the symptoms of many problems.  At the same time we continue to do the very things that create the symptoms we seek to eliminate.  Have you noticed that there are more and more ‘angry’, unhappy and frustrated people around today than ever before?  Somehow, that seems like a flashing red-malfunction light to me.

Many of the ailments we experience as we age are a direct result of poor nutrition and insufficient physical exercise.  These ailments include obesity, lack of strength and endurance, fatigue, low libido and depression.  Generally speaking, it’s not so much that these ailments come along as we age, as much as it is because of our nutritional abuse, physical inactivity and other unhealthy habits.  See the difference?  The solution for the most part is to give your body what it needs to help itself naturally work properly.  The idea is to fully understand the concept of a fitness lifestyle.  It’s not something we turn on and off, like a light bulb.  It’s not taking synthetic drugs to grow muscle mass or lose body fat.  It is a lifelong way of life (like brushing your teeth) that in turn helps support your well-being.  Selecting physical activities that keep the body toned and burn body fat as well as following a healthy and wise eating plan (including natural herbs and food supplements) will help support your body and improve the odds of keeping it functioning at optimum efficiency levels well into older age.

What would you think if I said that you could increase your energy, elevate your mood, decrease body fat, add some lean muscle mass, slow down the aging process and increase your libido all naturally?  The fact is, it’s not only possible but it’s true.  That’s the way your body was designed and is suppose to work, given a chance.  There is a natural, universal energy flow that runs through everything, including ourselves which allow us to continually unfold.  In other words, our bodies are predestined to live, grow, be active, healthy, fit and happy.  If we focus on developing our own body to its optimum potential, then we stand a high chance of success.  If we ignore the basic needs of our body, or try to make our body look like someone else’s, then we leave ourselves open to failure, disappointment and unhappiness.

Over the next few weeks, take a serious look at your attitude toward the health and fitness goals you may have.  Do you seem to set up ‘road blocks’ to the progress you wish to make, or do you try to keep a positive and conscientious outlook toward the health and fitness lifestyle you wish to achieve?  As always, be very honest with yourself and make the necessary changes to keep you moving in a positive direction.
